Suleiman & Anneloes, the Zanzibarian-Dutch couple, started CHAKO in 2012. Seeing the waste caused by the tourism industry and the difficulties young people without education face while finding a job (especially women) brought them to the idea of starting the social enterprise CHAKO.

With 38 artisans, organising awareness tours at the workplace and being able to upcycle more and more glass & plastic waste, they try to make a positive impact on the people of Zanzibar and the beautiful island.
